Glucose

Glucose, the Essential Energy Source

Energy is essential for life, and glucose is the primary source of energy, powering all of life’s processes, from maintenance and movement, to growth, reproduction and even

cognition. Glucose is derived from plants through photosynthesis, or created from other compounds in the cell, and broken down in a stepwise series of controlled chemical reactions to yield carbon dioxide and water. As glucose is broken down, energy is released, which is then stored in the chemical bonds of a molecule called ATP, to be used later to power other biochemical processes.
