First Friday Art Walk
Ocala, Florida. The first Friday of the month. On the Square. The Artwalk is now in full swing, having started in September, and will run through May.

The Fall Season is upon us (at least as far as classes are concerned) and I have a number of classes scheduled from October through December. The classes range from Introductory classes to Intermediate level classes to enable students to become familiar with colored pencils or gain more experience with them. In December I’ll be conducting an Advanced Colored Pencil Course, one that will take students from the planning stages right through to a finished painting – a very colorful floral arrangement.

I hold these classes at Master The Possibilities classrooms in On Top of the World Communities in Ocala, Florida. To learn more and sign up for the classes go to All information for these classes can be found there. If you have any questions about my classes just drop me a note on my Contact Page.

Individual, One on One Instruction

For those who would prefer personal, one on one instruction on colored pencil, drawing and painting, I hold individual instruction, and can develop instructional classes on various subjects suited to your individual needs. I hold these classes in my studio and welcome your inquiries. Just use the Contact Page to get in touch with me.

Intermediate Colored Pencil – Hydrangea Floral Painting

Dates: October 3, 5, 7, 10   Time 9am – 12noon

Description of Class:

Colored pencils can produce incredibly beautiful and vibrant paintings that rival those of oil, acrylic and watercolor. They can also provide a welcome meditative change of pace from our hectic world. Using just a few basic techniques you will learn how to create a beautiful botanical colored pencil painting. You will learn how to build layers of color and blend them to produce rich, three dimensional looking forms. The class will consist of three sessions of four hours each. We will have a good time with relaxed conversation in a productive, learning atmosphere. You will come away with a better understanding of how to use colored pencils to produce wonderfully exciting paintings.

Introduction To Colored Pencil Painting – Daylily

Dates: November 2, 4    Time 9am – 12noon

Description of Class:

Drawing with colored pencils is one of the first artistic skills we learn as a child, and often we leave it behind to take up “true” art such as watercolor and oil painting. But colored pencils can produce stunning and highly detailed paintings – with near photographic results possible. The basics of colored pencil painting will be explored in two classes. During the first class you’ll become familiar once again with handling the pencil and learn fundamental techniques. During the second class we’ll use those essential techniques to get a good start on a painting of a Daylily.

Advanced Colored Pencil Course: Still Life Floral Arrangement

Dates: December 1, 5, 7, 9, 12, 14, 16, 19, 21   Time: 9am – 1pm

This should be a wonderful class for anyone who wants to complete a beautiful still life of floral arrangement. The actual arrangement was one of many made by my wife, an incredible floral designer. It features, lilies, liatris, alstromerias and daisies, among other flowers, and would make a stunning painting to hang on your wall. Over the course of 9 sessions during 3 weeks we will take a project from a rough drawing stage right up through the completed painting. You’ll start by transferring a pre-drawn floral arrangement to finish paper and then, step by step, you’ll be guided through the process of coloring it in. We’ll break down a seeming complex subject into easily manageable steps, and you will learn about transfer methods, color mixing and blending, burnishing and various coloring techniques along the way. This class is for those who have some experience with colored pencil, but even beginners will find this a doable project.
